A quiet village in the middle of Småland

Ankarsrum is a small, quiet village in Småland, surrounded by forests and lakes – ideal for anyone seeking nature and relaxation without giving up good local amenities. For everyday needs there is a Coop supermarket in the village, open Monday to Sunday, a medical centre and restaurants. Places to eat include the two pizzerias Mikonos and Baron as well as the lovely Långsjöns Restaurang & Café right by the lake.

A special highlight in summer is the newly refurbished swimming spot at Långsjön. A sandy beach, a bathing jetty and generous green areas invite you to swim and relax. There is also a beach-volleyball court, barbecue facilities and modern toilets. The lake is also excellent for paddling and stand-up paddle tours – a lovely place for a whole summer day by the water.

Beyond the lake, too, typical Småland nature begins practically at the doorstep. Numerous forest tracks and hiking trails lead through the woods and lake landscape around Ankarsrum, offering many options for hiking, cycling and mountain biking. The roughly twelve-kilometre Ankarsrumsslingan runs through the area and connects to the longer Tjustleden – ideal for discovering Småland on foot or by bike.

Another special feature is the historic narrow-gauge railway Smalspåret, which stops right in Ankarsrum. The nostalgic train links several places in the region and is a lovely excursion in its own right in summer.

Despite its quiet setting, Ankarsrum is a very good base for a lakeside holiday in Småland: swimming, paddling, hiking and cycling are right on the doorstep, everyday essentials are available in the village – and Västervik with its Baltic coast and archipelago is only about 20 minutes away by car.
